Dr. Neil Hawkes has been invited to give a keynote presentation to the Headteachers of European Schools in Cyprus this coming week about Values-based Education. This is a great opportunity for Neil to influence the moral and academic direction of 600 Headteachers from throught Europe. Neil said, “My dream is to influence the direction of all schools so that both adults and students embrace universal human values such as respect, trust and cooperation. In the UK today, there has been a call for children to be givien lessons to raise their awareness about knife crime. I believe that if the curriculum is underpinned by values, then conscious awareness will be affected, so pupils will know how to live their lives in a peaceful and productive way that has meaning and purpose.” What do you think?
Neil gave an inspiring interactive address to Headteachers and teachers at Epsom, Surrey. He noted that many Surrey schools, notably the Elmbridge Partnership of Schools have implemented the philosophy of valueing. His address was endorced by other presenters. All were reassured by an HMI from Ofsted, who stated that a quality, imaginative curriculum is what officials are looking for in schools, which is why so many values-based schools are receiving excellent Ofsted reports.
Today, Dr Neil Hawkes conducted an audit at Pen y dre High School in South Wales. He had been invited to audit the progress the school is making in developing as a Values-based School. Neil was delighted with the school’s excellent relationships and high aspirations for the students. The school is now working towards the Quality Mark as a leading Values-based School.
Last Thursday, Dr Neil Hawkes gave a keynote presentation to Cambridgeshire Headteachers attheir annual conference. His focus was on the leadership of Values-based Education. Following the presentation, Neil has been contacted by Headteachers who want him to introduce his work to their staff. Neil made a strong link between values-based education and Learning Power that was presented by the other Key Note Presenter, Professor Guy Claxton.
Dr Neil Hawkes conducted a values audit on Thursday of Kislingbury CE Primary School in Northamptonshire. Neil told the Head, Governors and Staff that in his opinion the school is an excellent Values-based School with an outstanding leader in the person of Janet Northing. The pupils demonstrated a deep understanding of the values vocabulary and were living the values. Neil was delighted to award the school with the Values Quality Mark.
